1. Lottery - A great gathering
In the short story “The Lottery” the lottery is a great gathering. It is a special time of the year. This lottery you don’t win money if you get picked you get stoned. Don’t worry you don’t pay for your ticket. So you don’t want to get picked.
2. Sunny day - a nice day
- Sunny days represent a happy hopeful day in this book. Just like in most books, when it’s a sunny day people are out enjoying the day and chatting with each other. Almost like tailgating for football, baseball, or other sporting events.
3. rocks - represent death
- The large pile of rocks everyone tries to get away from represents death. The winner of the lottery gets chained to a wall or floor and people throw the rocks at that person. It’s very brutal but it’s one of the town’s oldest traditions.
4.black box - The town's history
- The “black box” that was mentioned resembles the town’s history. It’s a beat up box that has been there since the town’s first “lottery”. It’s something that means a lot to the people. Odd as the item may be, because usually you think black as evil and a box as boring, it standsout in the short story.
5.old man- represents town elder wisness.
- In the short story “The Lottery” Old Man Warner represents the town elder. He is like a wise elder you hear about in books or see in movies. He makes confusing riddles that are suppose to help you unlock something or counsels you to make tough decisions.
6. flowers blooming- Happiness
- The blooming flowers represent a great happiness. Children pick them for their mothers. They decorate the town with a colorful joy.
7.school ending- freedom
- School is out and children are roaming freely. Freedom is what this would be for the children. They can laugh, play, and relax throughout the summer. It’s a very cheerful moment when the bell is heard on the last day of school. Even if the last day was terrible the minute school is out it
’s a new life.8. June 27th- A holiday
- June 27th is a greatly valued day. It is like a holiday. It was as important as Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and many more holidays. It is the day the lottery takes place. Everyone may not be excited about it but they know it has come and will happen.
